Halifax Real Estate: Economy
As a capital city and home to two military bases (CFB
Halifax and CFB Shearwater), federal, provincial and municipal government
are Halifax's single largest employers. The Port of Halifax is Canada's
busiest east coast port handling over 14 million tons of cargo annually.
Halifax is also a centre for research and higher education,
home to Dalhousie University, St. Mary's University, the Techinical
University of Nova Scotia, Mount Saint Vincent University and the Nova
Scotia College of Art and Design. The Bedford Institute is one of the
world's largest centres for ocean study.
Recent discoveries off the coast of Nova Scotia have lead
to off shore oil development and Halifax real estate has been booming
as a result. The development has lead to job creation both on and off
shore for Halifax residents.
